about

The dynamic quintet shines through the nordic clouds with colorful songwriting on their forthcoming album ‘WONDERLOST’ set to release fall 2022 via Celebration Records. Second single “Only 19” will be released February 18.

The danish indie band Little Winter are releasing the 2nd single from their forthcoming debut album Wonderlost.
The track is called “Only 19” and is a classic “let’s dance” kind of song. It speaks of a relationship between two young people, and depicts two common and somewhat incompatible approaches to being part of such a relationship.

The new track from Little Winter comes with a cool ‘’one take’’ music video directed by Benjamin Sejbjerg and featuring Veonika Rud Rasmussen as both lead character and lead choreographer. The video takes on a 70’s film set vibe. A guy wants to stay at home and just chill while his girlfriend wants to party and enjoy being young and dance the night away.

Nikolai Ryan adds “I was dating a girl in my teenage years. She was everything other than boring. Every weekend was one big party that never stopped. In the end I couldn’t keep up anymore. I ended up feeling like an old fart compared to her insane energy. Many years later we wrote this song and we really wanted to incorporate her good vibes and insane energy into the track and video, and tell the story from both sides.”

Despite the obvious similarities to first single Julia as a crisp and to-the-point pop single, Only 19 is also a stylistic outlier of the album. Martin explains “It’s a fun song with a great energy to it both on the record and in live shows. Even though it may seem off compared to some of the very 60’s Beatles/Beach Boys-inspired stuff on Wonderlost, we feel that Only 19 is an important counter balance. It is a very straight forward pop song (and the only track on Wonderlost to feature a classic half tone-modulation!).”

As such, Only 19 contributes actively to painting the picture that is Wonderlost: to feel lost while trying to navigate the wealth of opportunities you are told that you have if you just find your purpose, stick to the plan and seize every moment. Drawing on the inherent lust in the term ‘wanderlust’ for finding true purpose, it explains how the search for inspiration and purpose often ends in confusion and despair; to be lost in the wonders of existence.

Bringing the idols into the frame
The mixing of “Only 19” alongside the rest of “Wonderlost" fell into place at the hands of Oslo-based Simen Hallset (lead singer of Norwegian psych pop darlings Gold Celeste). “We felt that Simen’s mixing-portfolio at large encapsulates what we wanted the Wonderlost LP to emanate, so getting in touch with him felt completely natural, although kind of scary at first,” guitarist Alexander Mirz explains; “To have the lead singer of one of your favorite bands give our music its final touches is pretty surreal to us. But with the blessings of modern technology, we have been able (and as an additional bonus even under Corona-friendly circumstances) to have video meet-ups with Simen which have served as a great foundation for our common understanding of where we could go with the track. It sure is a dream come true!” Alexander adds.

Recording the Wonderlost LP mainly took place at the legendary Feedback Studio near the docks in downtown Aarhus; a site known to many Danish/local musicians as the place where Danish artists like The Broken Beats, Peter Sommer, VETO and many more have set foot. Sonically, the choice to record at the Feedback Studio turned out to be crucial to Little Winter’s new sound: “analog gear is a great factor in attaining the sound that we so adore, hence the palette of vintage microphones, a ridiculously good sounding outboard setup, and masterful maneuvering/engineering of it by Magnus Vad was undoubtedly the optimal choice for us. We cannot wait to show the world what we have been working on. There are some real treats on the record that we cannot wait to get out there,” the five members agree.

After the covid19-pandemic hit and forced its way into every person’s everyday life, impossible to ignore, the band decided to take matters into their own hands; the rest of the album was recorded single-handedly by the band in their rehearsal space, close to the harbour of Århus. “We’ve accumulated quite some gear ourselves over the past couple of years”
Martin Welling says. “Daniel [Clifton of Little Winter] is a force of nature in the recording space, technically and creatively, and so he has inspired the rest of us to get into the game ourselves when we need something done. This means we’ve grown into a DIY-capable band.”

About Little Winter
The music of Little Winter is an homage to the sun-kissed beach vibes of the space age. Mix this with the DIY sounds of today’s indie scene, add dripping synthesizers and you’ll end with the colourful cocktail 'WONDERLOST’ - the quintet’s forthcoming debut album. The collection of 12 songs tells a story of feeling lost in a grand, ephemeral world. It all revolves eternally around the inherent motivation behind ‘Little Winter’; a testament to the small winters we all endure to find our place in the world. Little Winter are long-time friends Nikolay Ryan, Alexander Mirz, Nikolaj Johansen Sodemann, Daniel Clifton and Martin Welling.

WONDERLOST will be out in the fall of 2022 on all streaming platforms and limited 12” gatefold vinyl LP.

Only 19

written by Little Winter

i’m feeling like a fool hmmm

dancing here with you hmmm

i’m thinkin’ why don’t we just go home and talk?
oh oh oh oh oh why don’t we just go home and talk?

she looks at me and she says

you should try letting go - wuh you should try letting go

cause’ we’re only 19 baby we should do some crazy shit tonight uh-uh

i’m feeling kinda old hmmm

despite my youthful moves hmmm

i’m thinking why don’t we just go home and talk?
oh oh oh oh oh why don’t we just go home and talk?

you should try letting go - wuh you should try letting go

‘cause we’re only 19 baby

we should do some crazy shit tonight
we ain’t leaving till the sun is shining and don’t know what time it is

and we don’t care no we don’t care

you should try letting go - wuh oh you should try letting go

‘cause we’re only 19 baby

we should do some crazy shit tonight
we ain’t leaving till the sun is shining and don’t know what time it is

and we don’t care no we don’t care

baby i just wanna’ talk talk to you
baby i just wanna’ talk
baby i just wanna’ talk talk to you
baby i just wanna’ talk

about

Little Winter Aarhus, Denmark

Somewhere between melancholy and storming sentimentalism you find the band Little Winter. They write glowing pop songs about loneliness, love and sadness.

The music is rooted in the mulch of Western Jutland and the volcanic soil of New Zealand, which gives a natural play on contrasts and opposites, and a sound both atmospheric and danceable, introvert yet violent, and hopeful but always uncertain
